About Us

The Tennis Blast Academy has a solid history in the field of Tennis coaching reaching back to the 1970s when Australia was the leading force in world Tennis, and is one of NSW’s most respected professional Tennis coaching teams. It has been established since 1984 in Sydney and has been operating under the Tennis Blast banner since 2008.

The Tennis Blast brand stands for quality, integrity, dedication, character building and most importantly, good sportsmanship.

Tennis Blast has accumulated the technology and experiences of many Tennis enthusiasts, players, coaches and experts from the East Coast of Australia.  It’s founder, Kerry Dock grew up as a teenage competition player in the 1970s and became a full time professional coach in the 1980s in Sydney, New South Wales (NSW).

Australia was one of the top 2 countries in the sport of Tennis from 1905 to 1985.  The state of NSW even today, has produced more Tennis Davis & Federation Cup and Grand Slam legends than any other location in the world. They were Jack Crawford, Rex Hartwig, Vivien McGrath, Geoff Brown, Harry Hopman, Billy Sidwell, Dinny Pails, Fred Stolle, Mervyn Rose, Ken Rosewall, Lew Hoad, John Newcombe, Tony Roche, Yvonne Goolagong-Cawley, Margaret Smith-Court, Bill Bowrey, Lesley Turner-Bowrey, John Alexander, Ray Ruffels, Phil Dent, Mark Edmondson, Todd Woodbridge, Wally Masur, Renee Stubbs, Jason Stoltenberg and Jelena Dokic. (26)

Of the other Australian states, Queensland produced Rod Laver, Roy Emmerson, Mal Anderson, Wendy Turnbull, Ross Case, Geoff Masters, Samantha Stosur. (7)

Victoria produced Norman Brookes, John Bromwich, Gerald Patterson, Adian Quist, Frank Sedgman, Neale Fraser, Mervyn Rose, Kerry Melville-Reid, Diane Fromholtz-Ballestrat, Pat Cash, Peter McNamara, Paul McNamee, Nicole Pratt and Mark Philippoussis. (14) South Australia produced Ken McGregor, Lleyton Hewitt, Mark Woodforde and John Fitzgerald. (4) Tasmania produced Richard Fromberg (1).

Australia is well known producing many of the world’s best coaches. The most famous were Harry Hopman who still stands as the most successful Davis Cup coach, Charlie Hollis who mentored Rod Laver, Tony Roche who coached Ivan Lendl, Roger Federer and Pat Rafter; and most recently Darren Cahill who coached Lleyton Hewitt and Andre Agassi.

There is a huge history and database of Tennis knowledge that originated in Australia, and Australia has a proud and long standing history and tradition in the sport of Tennis.

In September 2007, Tennis Blast was named by Samantha O’Brien and Didier Grossemy of the marketing company, Speed2Market who were hired by Kerry Dock. They asked Kerry  to engage the best Tennis Fitness trainer he could find. Kerry contracted David Bailey to be the key educator on the Tennis Blast team.

David Bailey was NSW’s official strength and conditioning trainer in the 1990s and worked at the world famous Nick Bollieteri’s Tennis Academy and Chris Evert’s Tennis Academy, both in Florida from 2001-2004. David began to specialise in footwork in 2000 and is credited with being one of the world’s leading footwork experts and creating a whole new language for Tennis with terminology for every footwork movement in Tennis in 2005. David has lectured on every continent and has a worldwide following.

David introduced Tennis Blast to Peter McCraw of Melbourne. Peter’s expertise as a coach, bio-mechanic and educator became a huge asset in terms of contributing his theories on stroke technique and coaching methods. Peter has been Australia’s National Woman’s Coach and had worldwide success as a high performance player coach and developer.

Other contributions to Tennis Blast included expert coaches, sports scientists and specialists from NSW and Victoria in areas such as on court tactical drills, sports psychology, mental training, strength, rehabilitation, nutrition, racquet stringing and customisation, tournament programming and international travel. Good sportsmanship, court etiquette, good character and morals have always been an overriding priority.

These contributions are from the many experts who evolved from the huge amount of world class Tennis played by the thousands of Tennis players in Australia who were inspired by the 50 Tennis legends mentioned here.
